Mirak's History: A Family Tradition Since 1936

In 1920, a 13-year-old orphaned immigrant from Armenia escaped to America to live with relatives. They called him "John". A few years later, John Mirak became a full-time auto mechanic, because the money made as a high school student could not match the $3 per week his new job paid.

Throughout the 1920s John honed his skills, set up his own shop, and hired a few other mechanics in Arlington. As the Depression deepened he was forced to cut back and go it alone- still too young to know when to quit. He had a good following of customers who fostered John's reputation as a skilled tradesman with a strong work ethic.

In 1932, a garage he had once worked at was forced to close due to the difficult economic times. John and a few partners put up $300 each to purchase the building. By 1936 John had saved enough money to buy out the financial backers of the garage. That same year he acquired a Chevrolet franchise, and the 29-year-old had begun his long career as an american businessman in the waning years of the Depression.

His passion for automobiles was shared by his three sons who worked with him in later years and adopted his mantra: "An ounce of honesty is worth a pound of cleverness". His sons grew the business by taking care of the very families who had been buying vehicles from their father for years.

In 1982, MIRAK moved to 1125 Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington Heights. The 13 acre facility is home to a wide selection of new and pre-owned cars and trucks. Also housed here is MIRAK Chevrolet Service, Parts, and Body Shop, (one of the largest in the Northeast.) In addition to Chevrolet Trucks, we now sell and service Hino Trucks.

MIRAK has been a family-run company now for three generations. Stop by and see for yourself why MIRAK has been the Boston Area's automotive and truck source since 1936.
